Nowhere else is it easier to get to know the people of the Franconian Forest than round a table in one of the region’s wonderful inns.

In contrast to many mass tourism destinations the people of the Franconian Forest do not form an integral part of the tourism infrastructure. They are unique and original with their feet firmly on the ground and a strong sense of their regional roots and of the nature surrounding them.

Great care is taken to preserve the natural heritage of the Franconian Forest which is one of 30 Charter Parks in Europe to sign up to the "European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas". By stating its commitment to the Charter the Franconian Forest is declaring that in promotion tourism it will ensure that particular attention is paid to the environmental protection. Far from being an artificial world the Franconian Forest is a world of living nature and culture. With objectives well in place this is all set to remain so long into the future.
